Musicians from the Winanjjikari Music Centre and remote communities have the opportunity to attend various festivals throughout the year.
Kicking off in January with the Tamworth Country Music Festival, other festival highlights include Womadelaide 2010, Borroloola NAIDOC Festival, GARMA Festival, Darwin Festival (Indigenous Music Awards), Mob Fest, Alice Desert Festival and the Australasian World Music Expo in Melbourne.
Aside from the sheer joy of playing to enthusiastic crowds, there are invaluable opportunities for networking, gaining a better understanding of the business and production side of the music industry and polishing up on performance skills.
Community events are the lifeblood for WMC musicians and in 2010 there will be plenty of opportunities to assist in local celebrations such as Australia Day, sports carnivals, weddings, funerals, multi-cultural nights and corporate events.
An important outcome is providing performance and sound engineering experience for WMC staff with workshops delivering music and event training to consolidate their skills base.
If you wish to hire any equipment from WMC please call (08) 8962 2799 or email Jeff McLaughlin winanjjikari@barklyarts.com.au
